Membership At Immanuel

BY TRANSFER
If you are an active member of a Lutheran Church you may join by transferring your membership to Immanuel. You do this by calling or writing to your present church and asking them to send a transfer of your membership to Immanuel. When we receive the letter of transfer from your former church, we notify you by mail, and your name will be put on the mailing list for our "Living as Christ's Disciple" class (see below). Upon completion of the class you will be received into membership.

BY BAPTISM/CONFIRMATION
If you wish to become a member of Immanuel, but you have never been a member of a Christian Church or Lutheran Church, you may become a member by Adult Baptism/Confirmation. We believe the study of God's Word should be an important part of every Christian's life. To become a baptized/confirmed member of Immanuel you must attend the "Adult Information Class" (see below). This class will look at Christianity from a Biblical perspective. It is a class to ask any or all of the questions you may have about God or religion.

After completing this class you will be invited to attend the "Living as Christ's Disciple" class (see below). Upon completion of this class you will be given the opportunity to affirm your faith and your willingness to be a vital part of the ministry of the family of Immanuel.

BY RE-AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
If you have been confirmed in the Lutheran Church, but have not been active in recent years, you may join Immanuel by re-affirmation of faith. This involves meeting with one of the pastoral staff to discuss your desire to become a part of the Immanuel family. You will then be invited to attend the "Living as Christ's Disciple" class (see below). Upon completion of this class you will be received into membership by re-affirming the vows you made at your confirmation.

ADULT INFORMATION CLASS
This is a ten week, 2 hours per week, class that is required for anyone without a Lutheran background. The class will answer the following:
  • What is the Bible and why is it important?

  • Who is God?

  • What is the importance of Prayer and Worship?

  • What does it mean to manage God's resources?

  • What is Baptism and Holy Communion?

  • What is the Church?
During this class you will be challenged to uncover:
  • What do I believe?

  • Why do I believe it?

  • What am I going to do about it?
LIVING AS CHRIST'S DISCIPLE
This is an eight hour class that is designed to empower your life in Christ with joy-filled growing and serving at Immanuel. To become a member at Immanuel, you are required to attend this class.
