Immanuel School Admissions

ADMISSION GUIDELINES

Immanuel Lutheran Church has as its purpose to give a Christian education to as many children as possible. Therefore, we are eager to offer the educational program of our Christian Day School to all of the parents who desire a Christ centered education for their children. However, staff and building capacity limit the number that can be enrolled. Therefore, applicants for admission to the school are considered in the following order:

1. Members in Good Standing

First priority is given to church member school families (those who already have children enrolled in the school). These church members must maintain the status of members in good standing based on the following criteria:
  • 75% Church attendance
  • Regular Communion attendance
  • Attendance at a minimum of one Bible Study or series over the course of a one year period.
  • Active volunteer work in church or school by at least one parent over a period of one year.
  • Fulfillment of the financial obligation policy as set by the Immanuel Lutheran Voters.
Second priority is given to church member families who have not yet enrolled children in the Day School (K-8). These families must meet the requirements of “members in good standing."

Third priority will be given to church member families on a waiting list.

Fourth priority will be given to those who are considering membership by being enrolled in a membership class or by being transferred to Immanuel from another LCMS congregation.

2. Non-Churched Families Desiring Christian Education
Any non-churched family must make the commitment of 50% church attendance, pay their tuition per due date, be an active volunteer in the school, and practice the Christian lifestyle in their home. Also a willingness to have their unbaptized children, if this is the case, baptized during the school year. A meeting with the pastoral staff will be set early in the year to determine a time for this to take place.

3. Families who hold active membership in other Lutheran churches.

4. Christian families who give evidence of their faith and hold an active membership at their non-Lutheran church.
Note: Christian families who already have children in our school (K-8) will be given a higher priority than those who do not.

Admission Policy for grades 5-8
  • Students who come directly from another Lutheran School due to transfer of membership to Immanuel or moving from another city or state will appear for a personal interview with the principal and at least one of the parents of the student. Recommendation of previous principal will be done by phone by Immanuel’s principal.
  • Students who come from any other non-Lutheran school will need to have two letters of recommendation. One must be from a school personnel from the previous school and the other from his/her church from a pastor, youth worker, Sunday School teacher, etc. A personal interview will also be held with the students, his/her parent(s), the school principal, and the teacher of the grade he/she will be entering.
  • All students must have maintained a C or better average in the previous school.
  • The student will need to have a satisfactory record of conduct at the previous school, inclusive of, but not limited to, behavior, involvement, attendance, and punctuality.

OTHER INFORMATION

Applications from members and re-enrollments of school children (K-7) will receive priority if received by March 1st. No space will be kept open for members joining the congregation after March 1st. We will not ask families who are already accepted into the school to leave room for a new member family.

The decision to accept or decline any application is made by the School Board and is based upon the following:
  • Whether there is room for the child according to student/teacher ration policy.
  • Whether the previous record of the child indicates he/she would have trouble adjusting to our school program.
  • Whether the record of the child indicates that we would not be able to meet his/her needs.
  • Whether the parent(s) have committed themselves to Immanuel’s philosophy, objectives, and policies as stated in our handbooks.
  • Whether a church member meets the criteria of a ”member in good standing”.
