Curriculum At Immanuel

CURRICULUM
In keeping with the objectives of Immanuel Lutheran School, the curriculum is based upon the Word of God.
The Christian Religion forms the center upon which all instruction is based.

RELIGION Bible study, Bible History, Church History, memory work, worship, Chapel.

LANGUAGE Reading, phonics, literature, English (grammar & Composition), spelling, handwriting, creative
writing.

MATHEMATICS Arithmetic, mathematics, number theory, pre-algebra (7th & 8 th grades)

SOCIAL STUDIES Geography, history, citizenship, government, economics, culture, skills, and Society

HEALTH A monthly periodical is used in grades 5-8 called “Current Health”.
Up-to-date topics on health and the medical/scientific field are discussed.
Health Team presents monthly topics to all students.

SCIENCE Earth, physical, chemical, and scientific process

CURRENT EVENTS A weekly periodical is used to keep students updated on U.S. and world news.

CONFIRMATION 7th & 8 th grade study of the doctrines of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. This
course is taught by the pastoral staff of Immanuel. Memorization of the six chief parts is a vital part
of this class. All pupils in grades 7 & 8 are required to take confirmation instruction.

TECHNOLOGY Students are given the opportunity to learn how to use the computer, use it as a tool for
remedial and accelerated work, and to learn word processing techniques. Research skills on the internet
are taught in grades 3-8. Typing skills are taught in all grade levels.

ART Drawing, appreciation, varied media, crafts.

MUSIC Vocal, theory, appreciation, (variety of opportunities include choir, band, and handbells).

PHYSICAL ED Skills, physical fitness, health, safety (Presidential Fitness Program).

OUTDOOR ED A special outdoor/overnight trip for 6th & 7 th graders is planned annually. This trip is
designed to give an outdoor experience that can teach special skills that are not able to be taught in
the classroom during the season of spring and winter.

SPORTS Extra-curricular sports for grades 5-8 are Soccer, Basketball, Track, Softball, and Cross Country
for the boys.
Girls sports include Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Softball, Cross Country, and Cheerleading.
Note: 4th graders may participate in Cross Country & Track.
